4 tips to improve your urination game

My patients range from their 20s to 90s, and many struggle with leaking. They tell me, "I'm peeing my pants...when I laugh, cough, sneeze, jump, run, stand up, squat, walk long distances, wait too long..."

How Not To Pee Your Pants is my offering for a question I'm often asked: "Why didn't we learn this?"

You can prevent, improve, or eliminate leaking. I can help.

We'll talk about what the pelvic floor is and what it does. It's important to learn how to strengthen and relax it. High tension and tightness can cause problems, too. Clenching muscles for fear of leaking can make things worse instead of better.

Anyway, it's going to be fun. In the meantime, here are four tips to improve your urination game.

  1. Sit to pee so your body can relax. Reserve hovering for extreme situations.
  2. Let it flow. No power peeing. Don't rush, and don't push.
  3. Pee when you have to go. Holding it for a long time can cause tension in the pelvic floor, and just-in-case peeing can also cause problems.
  4. Balance your hydration. If your pee is dark and concentrated, you need more water. If it's clear and you're going about every 2-4 hours, you're well hydrated.

I'll explain the why for all of these at the workshop, but get started now. Your pelvic floor will be grateful.

Oh, and we won't just talk about strengthening and relaxing the pelvic floor, we'll actually do it. You'll leave the class with exercises to do on your own to optimize your pelvic health. Woot, homework! 🎉

You'll receive access info for both classes. Choose which one works best for you or attend both if you want. Class is live, and there is no recording.

Also, if you'd prefer to talk one-on-one, I created an individual session. It's the same content as the group workshop, but with your questions and experiences as the focus.

Let me know if you have questions.

As always, sending love,
Jen

P.S. Invite your friends to join us. Leaking is very common, and most people don't talk about it. Let's change that.

The intersection of pooping and yoga is... The squat. If you want to make pooping easier, put something under your feet to bring your knees above your hips. I've been using the Squatty Potty for years and have recommended it to so many patients. You could also use yoga blocks or get creative with things you already have around the house. Or, check this out. The new Sh*t Shoes bring the fun to mechanically optimized pooping. I love their retro vibe and educational materials. They sold out...

I taught a pelvic health workshop yesterday, and the information about peeing was a hit. When I asked for urination takeaways, these are some of the responses: Relax when you pee - sit, lean forward No power peeing Don't hold too long if you can help it Sip water throughout the day Peeing is self-care The bladder is a muscle! Yes! For the anatomy lovers, the muscular wall of the bladder is called the detrusor. It stretches and relaxes for the bladder to fill, communicates and coordinates when...

Hello! I've been working on yoga videos, and I'm happy to report the first one is ready to watch. If your hips are cranky and you don't feel like doing anything but lying down, I've got you. We can do both at the same time. You'll want to grab a yoga strap, towel, sheet, or belt. The practice takes 20 minutes and works well for easing into the day or winding down in the evening. It's available on Insight Timer for free, whenever you want to use it. Watch it here and bring on the happy hips!...
