The intersection of pooping and yoga is... The squat. If you want to make pooping easier, put something under your feet to bring your knees above your hips. I've been using the Squatty Potty for years and have recommended it to so many patients. You could also use yoga blocks or get creative with things you already have around the house. Or, check this out. The new Sh*t Shoes bring the fun to mechanically optimized pooping. I love their retro vibe and educational materials. They sold out their first production run in 7 days! I wrote to them for permission to use their graphics, and they also offered a discount code. Use the code LETLOOSE10 to get 10% off. This is not an affiliate link or a sponsored product. It's just 10% off, available from now until Sunday at midnight MST. I've already ordered mine. And be advised, these Sh*t Shoes are not made for walking. If you aren't feeling the Sh*t Shoes aesthetic, I 10/10 recommend the Squatty Potty. They have their own quirky sense of humor, which includes unicorns and ice cream. 🦄🍦 The squatting alignment is the important part. It puts you in the optimal position to relax the pelvic floor while doing your business. Other tips:
Give yourself the gift of emptying well. It's protective and healing for your pelvic floor. If you're struggling with hemorrhoids, fissures, constipation, urgency, leaking fecal matter, or pain with bowel movements, reach out to your primary care provider or make an appointment with a pelvic health physical or occupational therapist. Yes! For the anatomy lovers, the muscular wall of the bladder is called the detrusor. It stretches and relaxes for the bladder to fill, communicates and coordinates when...
Hello! I've been working on yoga videos, and I'm happy to report the first one is ready to watch. If your hips are cranky and you don't feel like doing anything but lying down, I've got you. We can do both at the same time. You'll want to grab a yoga strap, towel, sheet, or belt. The practice takes 20 minutes and works well for easing into the day or winding down in the evening. It's available on Insight Timer for free, whenever you want to use it. Watch it here and bring on the happy hips!...
Some people are naturally even-keeled. I married one of the most grounded people I know. (And he does not practice yoga.) As the saying goes, opposites attract. I need all the yoga. With years of physical practice, meditation, and philosophy, I'm functionally grounded. Most of the time. I've also learned about processing the highs and lows from Dr. Susan David. In her book Emotional Agility, she shares three things that don't help when it comes to our emotions. So, if shoving it down, stewing...
